Treat mattresses as a separate category
Mattresses and box springs are rarely accepted as ordinary furniture donations. The City of Bothell’s 2026 voucher program lists a $30 handling fee per mattress, futon, or box spring at the Shoreline Recycling & Transfer Station, with a limit of six pieces per customer per day. Wet mattresses are not accepted under the listed rule; torn or stained pieces can be accepted.
A voucher may cover some or all of the recycling fee for eligible city residents, subject to the program rules and remaining voucher value. Verify the policy before loading a mattress into a vehicle.
Prepare furniture for the route you chose
